It's the time of the season

Excellent, but those are the strangest ducks I have ever seen... Araucanas, and... Leghorns? Cornish? Some punk had ducks on sale for one dollar. I couldn't resist. I'm doomed.

I still want to try raising without using the red light. Supposedly someone in the area only uses white light, but I don't know what his setup is. Some people raise thousands of critters and just don't care what happens to them. I've always used the red light and never had any problems, but then I saw problems at the store I frequent. Six Cornish Rocks had to be removed because they were getting pecked at--blood all over the place. That was the first time I've seen it. Our brood boxes are quite cramped right now, and I'm surprised we haven't seen that yet. We haven't even had a McMutant casualty yet, but we did lose a Jersey Giant--thankfully we received that one for free, the Mcnugget machine miscalculated.

This is the first time we've used the red, always been white before. We had some problems the first night with trampling, but not with pecking.

I'm not sure of the mix other than that they are heavy layers.
