Friday randomness

The radio chick this morning thought I meant this guy. Lulz
I'll be speaking on John Brown, Jr., in the Kansas Territorial capitol of Lecompton this Sunday as part of the 2013 Bleeding Kansas Lecture Tour.  For some reason there are no concert-style t-shirts available.

No, Molly, wearing sunglasses with one lens missing does not make you look like "a really cool pirate."

Did some radio this morning in Lawrence. After 10 years away from it I can't really say I miss it all that much.

I managed to secure sources today for all the lead, zinc, and street brick I would ever need.  So I've got that going for me.  All I need now is for my RCBS Pro Melt furnace to arrive so I can pour some ingots.  And I want a pony.

Good News: The Springfield XD drawing sold out in record time - so fast I'm afraid I was not able to announce it here. Bad News: So did everyone else's, so we have to substitute a Taurus .40, which we will draw for on Sunday. Good news: I have tickets for a really nice 1911* if anyone is interested. $5 each, 6/$20.  300 tickets max.**  Hit me again if you're interested.

I cranked up the price of Good Hater to $5.99 as something of an experiment. The rumour is making the rounds that many readers view $2.99 books as "not serious" and will therefore not buy them.  If these proto-hipsters demand to pay more, I'm happy to oblige. I haven't seen a noticeable change in sales since the price change***, though I suspect**** I'll sell a good number of books following the talk on Sunday.

Some dude today walked into a gun-free school zone and handed me 2 full boxes of Winchester 230gr. FMJ .45 ammo.  What? Didn't he see the signs on the door? They are an ironclad guarantee that all the rabbits in the hutch are safe, and that simply will not work if some people refuse to act like rabbits.

Just don't tell the rabbits.

* And we have the gun, too.
** We are having something of a disagreement with NRA corporate about direction here. They want to do $2500 drawings on everything, which I understand, they being in the moneymaking business.  I'd rather have more $1000 drawings that get more guns to more people.  We'll work out a happy medium, I'm sure.
*** 0 * x = 0.
**** hope, really.

Now you just need to raise pigs so you can make your own gunpowder.

Cool. I'm looking for lead. What the heck do you do with zinc?

Diaper rash ointment. What else?

Actually, I'm not sure yet, so I'll probably just cast it into ingots for the time being.

I have, but only 2 of them. Didn't get any gunpowder, but I got a whole bunch O bacon.

I'm not worried about my powder - one of the best powders around is made right here in Kansas (Hodgdon). Intrastate commerce, FTW! And I've got enough of it, I suspect.

One of the things I've learned about zinc is it is very bad for making cast bullets. As in a small amount ruins your allow permanently. But I am betting you knew that.
