Regarding the "drunk" chicken, I think my brother is right. If you're interested I can post some more specific details. Just let me know and I can excerpt some things from various books.
We haven't experienced that problem. There are only a few serious issues we have had so far. 1) sudden death of female ducks for no apparent reason 2) two chickens died because they were egg-bound. they could not lay their eggs. They seemed disoriented and disinterested during cracked corn time--you know something is wrong if a chicken is not interested in cracked corn. The idea that a chicken would not want cracked corn is as absurd as a duck in a Fremen cistern. 3) enlarged turkey crop--it was ridiculously large. The turkey was slaughtered before there was an issue though.
After giving it some thought, I suspect he's correct as well. They are now 100% on hen scratch, the bugs being all but gone for the winter. While I've not had a problem like that before, it is wholly conceivable that the sudden change in diet led to a nutritional deficiency of some sort.
But it looked like a stroke, I swear.
