Won this* Ruger 9mm at the Friends of NRA Banquet in Pittsburg last night. Wife already stole it. It wll make a nice little concealable for her.
* well, one just like it.

Pretty.
Did you register it yet so Obama will know where to come and get it?
Sweet! Grip/Mag Extension. Xtra trigger safety (but not for the bad guy).
They put NightS on it by chance?
(Coincidentally, I spent the morning picking out Nights for mine - Meprolight it is)
Awesome. Congrats.
It was actually in my wife's name already, since she's Chair of the local Friends of NRA and was holding all the guns for last night's banquet. If they look up every gun that's been registered in her name, they're going to show up here with half a division.
OTOH, they don't need registration to know who has guns. All they need to do is subpoena Cheaper than Dirt.
Shennannegans.
The lady running the raffle wins the raffle? What are the odds of that? She must just be the luckiest woman in the universe.
Of course she is, she married me. But it was actually a card game - $20 gets you one card from the deck, tear it in half, keep half and drop one in the bucket.
At the end of the night, a little kid picks 5 cards while the state Field Rep holds the bucket. These are the 5 finalists and their halves go back in the bucket. Little kid picks one of 5, that guy's eliminated but gets to pick one of 4. Whoever he picks is eliminated. That goes on until only one card is left.
Ace O Diamonds, FTW, and I never touched the bucket. However, I did buy more cards than anyone else. It's a nice gun.
David Cordrea has written a while ago that the NRA is not really that helpful (as I recall, and I could have a faulty memory). Have you heard anything like this before, and what do you think? I do not have time to find a specific article about it, but if interested I could find one later.
To be honest, I'm more of a Second Amendment Foundation guy (i.e. an absolutist) myself. I understand why the NRA is all for Romney, but I don't agree. I would vote for Obama before Romney, but I will vote for neither.
That said, Friends of NRA is not the NRA, or rather, it's what the NRA used to be before it got Potomac Fever. The Friends of NRA raises money for shooting and safety programs, women's programs, range improvements and such.
The NRA Foundation, which is the name on the checking account, is a 501c3. So 100% of the $5k+ we netted on Saturday will go to buy bullets and targets for 4H groups, will fund 4 college rifle teams, and will support "Women on Target" and "Becoming an Outdoors Woman" programs.
While women are not the enemy, it's safe to say that a good percentage of the political enemy is women. They are female and therefore afraid. And one of the things they are most afraid of is guns. If you can't get them not to vote, then the next best thing is to get them to shoot. So that's what I do.
So yeah, I hear lots of criticism of the NRA and it is what it is. For me, if we don't teach women and kids to shoot in this generation, all the political BS in the world won't matter in the next one because there will be no one who cares enough to protect it then. Friends of NRA does that, so it's worth lots of my time.
RonPaul has expressed his opinion that LarryPratt and GOA are the only true gun lobby in Washington (no gun lobby should actaully be needed; it is black/white LAW)
I understand why the NRA is all for Romney..
Because he's a gun-grabber in Mass?
Saw this today and first thought was "ElBo":
Save the whales!! Redeem them for valuable prizes
Because he's a gun-grabber in Mass?
Lots of people have convinced themselves that Romney is one of them, and they are going to unpleasantly surprised to discover that he is who he always was.
Thanks.
I have stated several times why I am not a NRA member anymore so I'll shut up about it.
I assumed the friends of the NRA were actually raising money for the NRA. So that's good to know that they do something constructive, and I will probably be more supportive going forward.
And, nice gun, ya lucky stiff.
I assumed the friends of the NRA were actually raising money for the NRA
Yeah, I sometimes wish the foundation had a different name. There are both advantages and disadvantages the way it is, just like with everything else. We're actually so separate that the Field Rep will not sell you an NRA membership at one of our events.
Lots of people have convinced themselves that Romney is one of them
He IS one of THEM
But political voters are true believers. They haven't a clue who THEM are. They actually need to believe they are involved in the process.
Just as Quigley noted, it is a psych game for the people's consumption.
I've long been convinced that politicos haven't made a meaningful decision of their own in a Century. That looks more and more defensible BY THE DAY.
Just saw a bumper sticker you may find amusing: "Custer died for your sins". There is a book with this title, not sure how related the two are, though.
