This is sure to end well

Say Hello to my little trend
Due Process we can believe in:
(Reuters) - American militants like Anwar al-Awlaki are placed on a kill or capture list by a secretive panel of senior government officials, which then informs the president of its decisions, according to officials.

There is no public record of the operations or decisions of the panel, which is a subset of the White House's National Security Council, several current and former officials said. Neither is there any law establishing its existence or setting out the rules by which it is supposed to operate.
I can't imagine any problem with establishing the precedent that Americans can be killed by the government so long as they are specially chosen for the honor by a secret panel of political appointees operating outside the law.

Are we really supposed to believe that Reuters is a neutral party, just reporting the facts, or is this sort of like the "abuses at Guantanamo" story where there were no actual abuses happening?

I am OK with a court like the FISA court signing off on these decisions. I don't believe for a minute that there is no oversight and no review but of course there is no "public record". What else are you going to do? Have congressional hearings followed by a public vote on whether we ought to kill a terrorist and how?

That is a problem with "sources said." Personally, I'm generally skeptical of such until I hear the official denial.

Of course you mean that as soon as there is an official denial, the report must be true? :)

Brian: I'm not the Messiah! Will you please listen? I am not the Messiah, do you understand? Honestly!
Girl: Only the true Messiah denies His divinity.
Brian: What? Well, what sort of chance does that give me? All right! I am the Messiah!
Followers: He is! He is the Messiah!

Me write pretty one day. Did you know that AQ blames America for global warming? Seriously, check out the first issue. Somebody needs to create a quiz called "Al Qaeda or Al Gore?" in which people have to guess who wrote what. I was going to do it, but AG is even more boring than AQ. I leave it to others to tread down this "via lolorosa".

Bingo. Of course, I don't expect them to deny the whole report, only some rather unimportant facet thereof.
