I just started playing Wolfenstein. Nazis, Zombies and Nazi Zombies. What's not to like?
Huh. WWII is right up there with the Civil War for me. The Revolution and WWI are kind of a snooze.
I remember the original Wolfenstein - that would have been '83? '84? I would play that for hours and hours.
Guess not much has changed in 25 years except the graphics*...
CJ: definitely agree on WWI. of course "let's get in two lines and charge into each others' machine guns for four years" doesn't make for a very good study except for those people who need an object lesson in why they should trust neither governments nor 'experts.'

...charge into each others' machine guns for four years
You left out, "and pound each other with artillery".
It may interest you to know that at the US Military Academy, they don't study the American Revolution in the military art classes (art as in a practiced skill not drawing with colors) because nothing really happened. Just lots of men wandering about freezing and starving and occasionally running into each other and having a battle. When it comes to WW1, the USA had already seen a taste of it in the Civil war, which the rest of the world thought was pretty boring at the time. Even then, Most American generals considered Napoleonic warfare to be the high art (less squares).
America's great victory in WW1 was in holding the line against the French who wanted to use American troops as 1 million extra bags of warm meat to fill holes in French units. It didn't matter if they couldn't speak French, they just had to follow everyone else. Instead we got American units commanded by American officers and eventually an American sector.
The graphics are AWESOME. Like porn in HD. It is almost too much. Blaskowitz looks like he hasn't slept in weeks and is kept standing by a steady dose of uppers.
I'm glad I have the dual Gforce cards so I can see it all.
America's great victory in WWI consisted in giving French women the option of sleeping with a winner who didn't call her 'fraulein.'
Re the Revolution: Ever studied Cowpens*? It's actually one of my favorite battles from any war. and not just 'cause the good guys won.
* also known as "The Battle of Using Cowardice in Your Favor."
Ever studied Cowpens*?
Never studied it, other than reading the S'Haara novel and seeing what I believe was a representation of it in the movie The Patriot. I am sure I have the history pretty well down, especially from the movie.
