He just doesn't want to go to training camp, is tired of the Vikings pestering him about showing up two weeks before the season starts rather than one week before, and so had it leaked that he is retiring.

Yes, he was who we thought he was. That's fine, and the lamentations of Jim Souhan aside*, it's a small price to pay.

Put it this way, we have seen what this team can do with a hall-of-fame quarterback at the helm. I don't know too many people who are really excited to see what it can do with a really mediocre one, you know?
